3 Top Tips to Help you Choose the Right Collaborative Workspace
Ready to make the move from “working at home or out of coffee shops” into a collaborative workspace, but bombarded with so many options you don’t know how to choose?
More and more coworking office spaces are popping up every day, in cities big and small. But with so many different coworking spaces setups to choose from, it can be hard to choose a space that suits you. Before you begin touring potential locations, we highly recommend putting together a “wish-list” of all the things that are important to you, to ensure you find the perfect collaborative space. Bear in mind – everyone’s must-haves are different, so be sure to know what you want!
We asked several of our own lovely members what they looked for when choosing a coworking office space in London and this is the advice they had to share:
Vibe and ethos
Don’t ignore your gut instinct, it’s a powerful thing. If you feel comfortable and ‘at home’ in a space, then it’s probably the one for you. Check out the space’s diary of events (if they have one!). This could be a pitching workshop, a poetry evening, or social gatherings over a coffee (or even better a beer!). It is important to find a collaborative space that will help you flourish, so feeling comfortable and ‘at home’ is a factor not to be overlooked.
Layout and flow
If possible, you should visit a collaborative space more than once and at different times of day in the week. This will show you how busy the space gets, and it’ll also give you a great picture of the type of people who base themselves there. If you think you’ll click with them, it could be the right space for you. Check out if the space has semi-private areas or break-out zones for when you need to make that important call or take a breather from an intense work deadline. Make sure the facility layout is the right fit for how you envision yourself working.
Supplies and amenities
How many power points does the space have? You don’t want to be fighting with others when your laptop battery power gets dangerously low! Do they have a café on site, or are there eateries nearby? Creativity uses up a lot of calories, so you’ll need a steady stream of supplies, brain food, and caffeine on hand.
