We love a cuppa as much as the next person, and a tea break does way more for you than just keep you hydrated. Not only is grabbing a drink sociable – because let’s face it – you always end up getting a round of teas in for your work mates and having a chat by the kettle, but drinking the right beverages can also perk up the way you work.
Every once in a while we need a nudge to get up and out of our seat and away from our screen, and there’s no better excuse to have a wander about than to get the teas in. But just as importantly, a simple drink can improve your wellbeing and increase your focus, and that’s something we’ll drink to.
The Brain Boosting Beverage
About half an hour after drinking a tea, your brain activity starts to increase. After sipping on a simple cup of tea, the parts of your brain that are responsible for memory, decision-making, alertness and reasoning begin working at an increased function. Opting for a cup of tea is a great pick-me-up when you need to get down to work.
An Energy Enhancer
If you’re looking for an energy boost, a tea not only makes you feel a little more ‘wellnessey’ but it also contains just the right amount of caffeine to keep you going naturally. Some green teas such as matcha tea contain L-theanine, which can even increase your endurance – so much so that Samurais used to drink a bowl before going off to battle.
High in Antioxidants
Tea has approximately ten times the amount of antioxidants than you’d get in a serving of fruit and veggies. By regularly drinking black, green and herbal teas like chamomile, you’re getting antioxidants like catchins and tannins, which are known to reduce the risk of cancer, improve your skin, enhance your immune system and improve your cardio health. Now we’re not saying it’s a magic cure for all, but it certainly isn’t going to hurt.
De-Stress with a Drink
When the pressure starts mounting, we often reach for a hot drink to relax. There’s a good reason for that as, tea not only supports us by cheering us up and warming our hands, but it can physically reduce our stress. Researchers from UCL have shown that drinking a humble cup of tea almost doubles the amount your cortisol levels can drop.
Full of Beans
We couldn’t finish this article without the mention of a good cup of coffee. Let’s face it, nothing else can really take its place in our morning rituals quite like a cup of coffee.
