Meet Emma

A space is only as good as the people running it, so for our first Community Manager we set ourselves the challenge of finding someone with bags of energy and a proactive attitude to help shape our community in Manor House.

After interviewing a bunch of people, we found Emma, like a brunette ninja she jumped in with a big smile and knocked us dead with all her ideas for our workspace. As creator of the vibe, you’ll find her in our space keeping everyone smiling, making cool stuff happen in our community, getting all the bits and bobs sorted for events, and being the first point of contact for our members.

We asked Emma to tell us a little about herself, we know once you meet her you’ll want her to work with you as much as we did.

So, I’m Emma – I’m originally from the rolling green hills of Oxfordshire, but I always wanted to live in London. Growing up in a tiny market town I was always enticed by the big city, and seeing that I have oodles of friends and family here, it was really a no brainer.

What really got me excited to join Areaworks was having the chance to work within and be an active member of a community that I genuinely love. I’ve always loved the Manor House area. There’s always something going on, I think you get a real sense of community – which is something to be celebrated, and something I want to add to. I can’t wait to create a space where people with ideas in the area can come and work together. I want to make space a platform for events, mixing, meeting and working – of course – having a laugh too.

My role allows me to meet a diverse range of interesting people, drink as many cups of coffee as I want, and importantly it allows me the opportunity to make my ideas happen in an open space – something I couldn’t pass on. Plus I never turn down a new challenge. It’s nice to be part of such a fun team so I’m looking forward to helping shape a space from the very start and seeing how it goes.

A big thing for me is music, so I’m down to share all my tunes with members in the space. I don’t really have a specific genre, but I can’t get enough of disco and funk and soul, I’m always bopping around to gems like George Benson and James Brown. But, then I love a bit of Hip Hop and Jungle too – anything you can bop to is my rule.

When I’m done with my day, my first port of call is to make the dinner I have been thinking about since 7am that morning. I’m lucky enough to live with great friends, so we like to make dinner a bit of an event, usually involving Vino and Sister Sledge. Besides wine, tunes and food I love to paint. Painting is something I have loved ever since I can remember. I love nothing more than taking myself to a quiet spot with a blank canvas and a pallet of paint.
